TCA's as a class of meds would make me gain?
Paxil use for 13+ years never put weight on me but Nort in as little as 9 months has put a good solid 20lbs. on.
Thanks!

Most of them would, but probably not desipramine.

Why is it that desiprimine doesn't? How is desiprimine on depression compared to Nort? I'm currently tapering the Nort. and am on 20mg. paxil.
What other side effects would be likely with Desip?
Thanks!

Dry mouth, constipation, possible heart arrythmias and weight gain. Profile for TCA's about the same with some being milder and some stronger. Phillipa

> What other side effects would be likely with Desip?Desipramine is pretty selective as an NE reuptake inhibitor. It lacks the sedative and antihistamine effects of most TCAs.
Desipramine causes noradrenergic-type side effects very frequently eg. dry mouth, increased heart rate, sweating and constipation.
It is not more effective for depression than nortriptyline, but probably not less effective either. It suits some people better. Nortriptyline might be more suitable for those with insomnia.
