I saw an Endocrinologist for the fist time in my life today and he told me T- replacement has very little effect on mood, motivation, depression. "Its usually just a placebo effect" he says.
I just dont feel alive since decreasing Androgel for the last 4 months and that is the reason for going to see him. Can anyone give advice on this?
I cut the dose of Androgel in half, then in thirds over the last 4 months at the request of my Physician because my T level was getting too high.

My advice is to trust your instincts.
Testosterone made me feel more robust, and I didn't feel it was a placebo effect.
How about aiming to get your T levels into the high-normal range?

Find another endo or find an anti-aging doctor in your area. I think testosterone replacement can have an antidepressant effect. If you feel one, I do not think it is placebo. Can you start Androgel again until you find a good doctor to get you started on T replacement?

Being an older female with an antiaging doc and him using blood testing I use estrogen, progesterone, testosterone in cream form. Testosterone was just raised. I don't think I like the effects. sitting on the fence. Phillipa

I thought that it was fairly well known that Testosterone supplementation had an effect on Mood?
Maybe I'm wrong?
It doesn't sound like your Endo was very sympathetic

>my T level was getting too high....
I can see why they were concerned. Too much testosterone could be harmful for your body in the long term.

What effects didn't you like? Because despite a blood test I wonder if my testorone is very low as well.
How did it feel to be on T? How you taking any hormones now?
Sorry for all the questions. But you know that I have hormones on my mind lately.

Maxi right now taking or using the creams and all seems well. No hair growth on skin which would be a sign of too much. Hoping if I ever get to weights will help built up arms. So no worries. Yes if you take one usually you hormone testing will indicate all three needed at your personal doseage. Phillipa

> I can see why they were concerned. Too much testosterone could be harmful for your body in the long term. That's why you see a good doctor that makes sure all hormones are at optimal levels. There are some good studies showing that testosterone replacement may be beneficial to health and healthy aging.

I have never heard of a "anti aging dr." I would love to see one. Are they expensive? Where I live I'm lucky just to find a GP. I wonder how my healthcare would cover anti-aging? Don't they want us to die so they can cut costs?

Lol..Or the pharmaceutical companies what us to live longer just maintaining and sustaining on their medications. Also, If we are healthier as we live longer, insurance companies will not have to pay as much for medications, surgeries, and cancer treatments, so anti-aging might be in their best interest.
Where do you live? There are doctors out there that focus on anti-aging. And I bet many of them would try to come up with a medical reason for their treatments to increase chances of insurance covering them. Then again, maybe not. It would be pretty hard to convince insurance companies to cover the use of a high quality resveratrol(at least until GSK comes out with theirs) or testosterone replacement. I think soon the evidence for the health benefits of testosterone replacement will be strong enough that insurance companies may begin to cover it. Unfortunately right now it can be pretty expensive. I think the benefit of seeing an anti-aging doctors is that they have extensive knowledge of treatments and supplements that can be beneficial to fighting aging. The only treatment I would be weary of is human growth hormone. I just think there is too much evidence that HGH replacement can contribute to cancer proliferation.

I see one and you have an initial consultations and testing of hormones and thyroid cash only I think mine was $250.00. Then you do a follow up when labs in and he prescribes a formula based on your chemisty results no charge for this. Then if on testosterone a follow up each six month cost $150.00. More info google Ronald L Brown MD Charlotte Nc. Website is carolina healthspan.com. Phillipa. Page goes into both female and male hormone replacements. Phillipa

Thanks Phillipa and Morgan for the valuable information. Although I live in the midwest near International Falls MN I'll visit carolinahealthspan.com to get some comparisons of Drs there vs. MN. It's really desolate here. I think most professionals would hesitate to live around here.
I am very interested in anti-aging. Hoping to counteract all the damage done after years of stress and meds. I checked out "mindandmuscle.net". Hard to differentiate between advertising and information but I'm intrigued because I'm also into body building as well as staying young.

Hard to differentiate between advertising and information but I'm intrigued because I'm also into body building as well as staying young. It's a legit site, just go to the articles and the forums and you will find tons of information and discussion. They have to let companies advertise so they can fund their site. Some of those companies are really good. Same goes for the companies advertising on Imminst(the other site you should check out), like Revgenetics and Relentless Improvement.
That sucks you live in such an isolated area where it is hard to find a good health care professional.
Whatever you do, I say try to get back on hormone replacement therapy and try to find a good doc that knows what they are doing. I may be going to see a good doc up in Penn. that my massage therapist referred me to. Maybe he knows of someone in your area, at least as close as 45 mins away if you're willing to travel. Also, she said after talking to a few doctors and doing some research, that biodynamic hormones replacement is much better than synthetic. I'm going to have to do some research and figure out exactly what is available as far as biodynamic hormones go.
I would go to the HRT/Anti-aging forum of M & M and make a post there asking a few questions.

Ive had awful fatigue and some body pain for the last 2 months now. Like, its hell getting out of bed and im falling asleep at work. My muscles tire quickly so I cant exercise. I have to take a nap when I get home most days. Then I cant sleep when I need to.
I quit my SSRI in the hope that it was related but no go. Have tried piles of supplements asuming it was a cortisol issue since I have PTSD. No luck there either.
I just got some blood drawn for some tests and have asked them to check for low testosterone as well.
Do any of you taking androgel have similar stories? Fatigue and pain which resolved (or did not) with testosterone boosted up to 500 or more?
I could care less about the emotional stuff at the moment, Im like a shuffling zombie my brain is asleep all the time.
This is the end of the thread.
