Using a lidocaine patch with MAOI?

Posted by SLS on August 26, 2010, at 13:00:39

Does anyone know if it is okay to use a lidocaine patch when taking an MAOI?

Thanks.

All I know is a patch absorbs into the skin and directly to bloodstream. I would think like hormone patches, nitroglycerine patch, oh and now thinking fentnyl, and the other pain meds. I used on once and it really didn't do anything. Phillipa

I wouldn't anticipate any problems.

Scott, depending on what for, there is a transdermal called flector that works well for me. Shouldn't interfere with maoi's.

In a post to Maxime said you weren't doing so well. I'm sorry. How are things today? Your in my thoughts.

Thanks for the information, FB.

Biological things have not been so great, but not too bad either. However, my most recent treatment failures have left me demoralized and helpless. I have had to fight suicidal thoughts. I started taking Nardil. So far, it has taken the edge off of the depression. However, I don't anticipate responding well enough to return to work or have an adequate quality of life. I am currently looking at adding agomelatine (Valdoxan). I hope my doctor will allow me to try it.

Scott, not familiar with valdoxan, but do hope you get your doctor's o.k.

Glad the nardil is helping enough to keep suicidal thoughts at bay (that is what I'm inferring). And sorry to hear they started up. That's my 'nearing the bottom' sign.

I'm doing alright for me. I probably will not ever work near the capacity I once
did, however much my doc cheers me on. This plus physical pain has pushed me to redefine what is an acceptable quality of life. Somehow an adequate life must be achievable for everyone if one remains flexible or open enough.

Posting on babble probably was not part of anyone's initial definition. Keep on it. We all pull together.

((hugs))
