Crush Wellbutrin XL pills

Posted by tensor on April 22, 2010, at 4:18:06

I want to try bupropion to reverse TCA induced anorgasmia. I have Wellbutrin XL 150mg pills at home and I wonder if I can simply crush them to get an immediate release, and use it prn. Any dangers with this? Are 150mg too much?

Thanks,
Mattias

150mg is too much. With instant release wellbutrin the dose would be half that.

Shouldn't be crushed at all, that is the extended version of Wellbutrin. The coating prevents quick disolution. Don't think the stuff inside would be something you should just take to get a quick response, but only a pharmacist could answer the question and they would never advise to do that. Of course, experiemtnation is done all the time, just would be hard to predict the outcome. At your own risk but why not get a script for the regular wellbutrin to really test the response? Even get only a few pills which would allow you to try a couple doses and not spend money if it doesn't help you.

Appreciate your concern. But bupropion is only sold under the trademark "Zyban" for smoking cessation here. With a license I can buy "Voxra" from Sweden, which is most likely the same as Wellbutrin XL.
My question has nothing todo with interactions. I'm pretty experienced regarding meds, I just wondered if a crushed XL is the same as the IR counterpart. And if 150mg is safe to take. If you don't know the answer, please refrain from posting, thanks :-)

Regards,
Mattias

So sorry I even responded to your post now.

Your response made me realize that by responding to a post and trying to help, I could get criticized. That may be why I do not like to come to this forum that often as I thought it was for support and advice, not just for answers that one feels entitled to. Since when did this become a forum for only correct answers, and who are the experts that have the right answers all the time? I thought for as many "experts" there are there are plenty of ordinary people just sharing and offering suggestions.

That is the reality of this forum...it is not always going to answer your exact question. YOu have to be able to sort through the answers to get to what can help you the most.

FYI: I did not get into any interactions and have no idea where you live so that is not a consideration for my response. I will not respond to any of your posts again as you are not able to ignore responses that do not help your situation. So much of life is being able to do this without offending others.

Questions like you asked are best answered by a pharmacist or by reading the package insert.

I apologize for my sarcastic post, I was in a very bad mood and upset for a thing that happened. No excuse, I know, but a reason I hope. I sincerely hope you can forgive me for that one.

Kind regards,
Mattias

Thanks for your apology. I was upset and I know being depressed makes me very sensitive to criticism.

I guess I have a very different way of seeing things. My response to anyone's post is based on what I feel might be helpful to them. I never assume to have the right answers and don't want to have to "keep quiet or silent" for fear of not answering a post correctly.

When someone answers a post of mine, I feel grateful that someone has taken their time to listen and try and offer whatever advice they have, and it may miss the mark completely. But at least they tried... I guess I expect a lot less from others, even when I'm in a bad mood, which can be every day lately.

I hope you find what you are looking for in life.
