Hello, New Here

Posted by StillHyper on April 20, 2010, at 11:58:19

Hi, I found out about this board from the New York Times.

I'm a 50-something woman with a lifelong history of ADHD and mood disorders. I was on Ritalin in the '60s (and, trust me, girls didn't get the little yellow pills in the '60s). I was on Prozac on and off in the '90s and '00s. Currently on Ambien due to chronic insomnia.

Despite the Ambien, my sleep is horrible (2 nights this week of under 2 hours, all other nights under 5). I've had occasional severe anxiety attacks, except that I honestly have little reason to be anxious. Other than the not-sleeping part. I have a thyroid growth and will be seeing an endocrinologist this week. Just found out this week that thyroid problems can cause anxiety attacks. Even though I know that now, I have them anyway.

I'm just looking for an anonymous place to vent and get some information and maybe help others who've been through some of the same stuff.

Hi hyper I can relate with you as also have thyroid disease and the first thing that happened was the opposite of what should have my TSH went up and my anxiety went through the roof. Take benzos and of course synthroid. One of the thyroid meds. You say your're hyper are you on one of the hyper meds or will they remove it. When's the endos appointment. I wish you luck the thyroid is so important but can be fixed. Love Phillipa and welcome to babble.
