Hi to all,
If I have to wait two weeks to start an maoi, can I still take my seroquel during that two week period to maintain control?

Yes Seroquel should be just fine. It has little interactions with other medications and is just what someone needs if they find themselves in a mania... is your plan to begin Nardil and Seroqual after a previous drug trial(failure)?? Its good to wash out a previous ssri, snri, tca or another maoi, but seroquel you can start right away aslong as your not allergic to it. Take a look at the contradications and interactions on a site like drugs.com or similars of..

Hi Courtney,
I am not a doctor, but the reason for the 2 week "wash out" period is because SSRIs up the amount of serotonin and other chemicals in your body chemistry.
"Seroquel is thought to be an antagonist for two primary neurotransmitters (chemicals in the brain), serotonin and dopamine." (Rusk, 2009)
For this reason, seroquil might cause might cause serotonin syndrome when used with an MAOI. And in order for seroquil to not interact with the new MAOI you are trying, you have to be off of it for two weeks. So my advice would be to proceed with caution. You can also check drug interactions here:

> Retrieved: Feb 24, 2010quetiapine & norquetiapine have little afinity for the sert and any increase in 5ht is from alpha2 antagonism, and the 5ht antagonism would prevent 5ht syndrome from happening, though not as well as risperdal or something.
