Hello mates,
It's a long time I noticed that if I keep the meds dosage stable for 2 or 3 weeks I end up having a mini depression crisis at some point. Then increasing or decreasing the dosage seems to kick the sympthoms away for 2 more weeks. The problem with this is that it is difficult to keep a stable mindset, as this mood change also affects congnition and my capacity to work... and it's quite distressing...
I use low doses of things, as it seems that they don't give you a drugged feeling.
So I wonder, what't the deal here? Should I try to challenge my brain all the time so it has to adjust itself and keep things dynamic? Or is it a dosage problem? Any experience out there?
Thanks
Ralph

That's a really interesting theory, Ralph. I'm curious to see what others say about it.

This is a very succinct way to put what I have noticed myself. In order for meds to work you almost have to 'keep it fresh'. More of a medication, sometimes less. Adding another medication or taking a medication away. Adding in a little exercise, caffiene or stimulant, sleep deprivation, fasting, supplements.
I dunno, I just think that if you stay at the same dose of the same meds for long enough your brain adapts. By changing something the brain has time to bounce back the other way and perhaps restore a theraptutic response.
I think to, just the mental idea of "changing something" triggers a chemcial shift. The idea of novelty or just the feeling that something will be different.

linkadge,
do you feel that it's possible to arrange a schedule of "irregular" medicine intake (pseudorandom, if you understand) or one cannot avoid a breakdown before having to change a regimen? i'm asking this because eventually a irregular intake might only change the basal amount of the medication in our bloodstream, not really brain receptors sensitivity. Maybe it has to be a rough change in order to be effective?

I think its possible to come up with some sort of regiment, but I think the key may be that it is not consistent each day.
I think the "shock to the system" is sometimes necessary (at least for me). But it can't be too strong a shock or it just wipes you out.
Changing it enough to keep you on your toes I guess.
Switching to a med b with a different mode of action can (like you say) let the receptors for neurotransmitter a regain sensitivity (?)
