When I took lithium to augment ADs, I went up to 900mg, which is still way below what is prescribed for Bipolar. It didn't work for me, but others have found it helpful.

The dose range is usually between 150mg and 600mg, sometimes higher. My own personal experience...keep in mind I am sensitive...was that 150mg was rather stimulating and strongly antidepressant, while higher doses for me were more lethargic and depressive. Everyone is different. I think the key is you have to go into blind without any expectations and find for yourself what your personal sweet spot is.

No blood levels are not used for low dose augmenting. They help some when used at low levels that are no at therapeutic blood levels.

When lithium is used as monotherapy for a bi polar person than blood levels are important.

Bulldog I am aware of this as worked with a pdoc who did just this same thing. In fact he thought extremly low levels of lithum helped PMS symptoms. The levels are important as not all respond the same. Used to ensure a patient doesn't get toxic. Whos to know they drink adequate fluids for instance? Just a thought. Phillipa
