I posted a thread on Psycho-Babble about 6 or 7 years ago about the potential brain damage I suffered following intense MDMA use over 1 summer in 1998. I write potential because there is no way to prove that my physiological and psychological problems are a result of MDMA use... but I am quite convinced. Either way I suffer from lack of concentration, poor memory, and anxiety/depression. What gets me most is the constant sense of agitation, the unease, the pain in my head... especially as my eyes flutter across words on a page trying to desperately absorb what I am reading. I sound coherent as a write here and my doctor's don't see much wrong with me... but my life is HELL. I've taken various SSRIs for years but these don't seem to help much. I've managed to overcome the guilt of self-inflicting this suffering on myself... but I still think of suicide often. Can anyone help me? Is anyone going through the same thing as me?!? Please post advice/comments.

I remember your post from back then. The reading phenomenon you describe sounds like the way I feel on Lamictal and to lesser extent memantadine.
Have you tried stuff like provigil or adderall?

Have you ever tried Ritalin or Provigil (Alertec in Canada)? Alertec has really helped me absorb and focus.

First, I'm sorry that you are in so much distress and pain. Yes, this happens to some people. I would suggest you find and see a specialist for your very specific situation. My pdoc , I think, knows someone who has worked with this. He's away until the end of the month, and we're on the West Coast. --And I hope you get some helpful answers and support here. You are not alone in your situation.

Okay, I was thinking of your post just before going to bed.
Many people here live with brain damage of one sort or another. Some of us know what happened, some of us don't. Lately, I'm trying a multi-pronged approach. Meds and brain 'food'. I'm not the one to give specific advice on this--there are others more qualified and knowledgeable. I'm starting slow--fish oil, amino acids. Have you tried adding this approach? Right now, I'm using a book called 'UltraMInd". I'm not boosting it by any means--it happens to be what came my way and is written in an easy, step by step, laundry list way that my mind can handle.
I'm hoping to add something like Tai Chi as well. (Physical injury prevents yoga.) I don't know. To reconnect and rebuild body and mind. I hope I don't sound too naive. Meds alone don't, haven't done it for me. BUT I do need the right meds. (And my therapy.)
It sounds to me that you've done much self-work already. Keep on going, and try, try, try with the self-compassion you spoke of in your post.
warmly, and with more than my two cents worth,
fb, another work in progress
This is the end of the thread.
