Is it safe to take SAMe with Prozac? The prozac is helping my social phobia a little, but doing nothing for my depression. I've read such great things about SAMe. Haven't really found any specific info other than "consult your doctor if taking SSRIs". Was wondering if anyone here has taken the two simultaneously. I would start on a low dosage also. Thank you!

Is there a reason you just can't up the Prozac?

If you have any history of mania (or are diagnosed Bipolar) I'd highly recommend not to.
SAM-E increases all 3 of the major neurotransmitters. About ten years when in University ago I took SAM-E. At the time I also used marijuana to self-medicate. The combo sent me into my first and most sever psychotic manic episode.
Perhaps someone has experience w/ that particular combo though....

Might be a good one for the alternative board also. I remember a poster from Europe on Sam-e who did very well on it. Are you bipolar? Phillipa

My dr won't approve of any further increases in dosage.

You had better check with your doctor as you would be risking serotonin syndrome. Google drug interactions checker and see what it says.
What about taking fish oil capsules as there have been studies showing that supplementing an AD with them works very well?
