Hi all...been away from the site for a couple of years.

I have been on 200mgs of Zoloft, 25mgs of Librium, and 100 mgs of Trazadone for a while now. ( Zoloft 10 years) Librium and Trazadone 2yrs)
I have been in a deep depression for 9 months now...and today I visit a psychiatrist for the first time.

Panic Disorder was my original problem 10 years ago...but now it seems the med's have stopped working.

Any suggestions before my first visit today?

Thanks BF

Phillipa.....thanks for the welcome back and for remembering~

The visit went well..., he wants me to switch from zoloft to Desvenlafaxine Oral....and come back in two weeks.

He asked alot of questions..I filled out some forms and took a couple tests.

We talked a while ..and that was it.

Anyone heard of or tried this relatively new SSNRI?

BF

Hi BF,

Been on Zoloft for ten or so years as well with a few other A/D's scattered throughout.

I did fairly well with Effexor 150 and Remeron 15, lasted about 1 1/2 years.

Have you tried lamictal? It may rejuvenate your zoloft success... stick with the AD that's proven and add to it in small steps?

The zoloft will continue to help with your anxiety and lamictal will lift the depression you've been in, just a thought?

Best of luck... Rick

Hi Rick...thanks for the advice.

I have been reading up on pristiq ( That's what the Pdoc wants me to start taking tommorrow) and it seems to me that it MAY be a short fix...but in the end is just another artificial way of temporarily relieving depression symptoms.

I am still trying to decide of I should start this new drug or not.

Thanks for checking on pristiq Phillipa..
I too have done research overnight and it seems to be a more powerful antidepressant than Zoloft.
( Being an SSNRI)

The more I think about yesterday'a Appt with the PDoc...I guess I am dissappointed.
as usual, I set my expectations too high..and feel let down.

The side effects of pristiq are disturbing, and
I really would like to try and eliminate AD'S from my system all together...and allow my body to return to naturally producing the chemicals I need to maintian a normal mood.
When I suggested this to the Doc yesterday, he brushed it of and said "no...that wont work, you will just spiral down into a more depressed state"

After being on Zoloft for this many years....I still wonder if DAMAGE has been caused by long term use.
Again...when I mentioned this to the Doc..he said "no..long term anti-depressant use doesnt damage you"

What has your research revealed?
Anyone?

BF
