I saw a new Pdoc who prescribed 5mg of Zyprexa along with my other meds:
Adderall
Lexapro
Klonopin
Cogentin
AmbienI'm having horrible depression and horrific anxiety. I'm just worried about gaining weight on Zyprexa as that seems to be the biggest side effect.
Anyone have any positive experiences on Zyprexa? Maybe the Adderall will help curb my appetite?
Thanks Jerry

more than anything else i found zyprexa to be extremely sedating but i think if i can recall that wore off after a while. sometimes a lower dose is more beneficial and can have a sedative/anxiolytic effect that is useful. its now combined with prozac in one formulation because they can work so well together.

It should work. Are you taking it for mania or psychosis? I worked well for my mania along with depakote. I was able to come off it after a few months when I was out of danger. I would recommend anyone get off antipsychotics eventually unless they absolutely needed them to function. JMO.
Zyprexa at the right dose will work. Have you noticed anything yet?

I have not been on zyprexa but I am on seroquel, an AP added to 2 ADs, remeron and pristiq. I also take provigil which is a non-amphetamine stimulant. Both remeron and seroquel are supposed to make you gain weight. I have seen tons of posts about people's weight gains. I have not gained any weight on either the remeron or the seroquel. What I do find with the seroquel is that it messes up my appestat (sp?) Meaning that once I start eating, I have no sense of satiety or fullness. Most of the time. What I do is have liquid meals during the day and eat tons, and I mean tons, of veggies at dinner.
I don't know how the zyprexa will effect your appetite but I think if you are feeling awful it's an agumentation stategy that makes sense. You know how it is, there's really no way to find out how it will effect you without giving it a go.
My advise would be to try it. A lot of people gain weight on it but not everyone does.Zana

> Thanks JerryI know all docs do what they think is best. I see the above list of meds and do not agree with your doctor.
That said, yes, Zyprexa can be an awesome med. Screw the weight gain. Do like I do. Start eating creative good things like...large leaves of green leaf lettuce or romaine lettuce, lay some sliced deli turkey on it, roll it up like a rolled taco, and get used to eating those. Stuff like that. Keep your diet green and raw, you won't gain weight. Eat breads, pastas, sugars, you will gain weight. Your choice. Not the med's fault. It only highlights and exagerrates what bad choices we make.
Back to meds. Ya know, Adderall itself causes depression in just about anyone who uses it long enough. For me, instantly. For others, months, maybe years. Amphetamines lead to depression, plain and simple. They can however definitely have power to work fast at brightening mood, energy, and clarity. But it is a two edged sword. I guess I would be suspect of Adderall in your mix. I would wean it out. If anyone absolutely needs a stimulant, it is Lyme patient. I am one and I don't take a stimulant.
Lexapro. Hey, if you've been on it 12 weeks or longer, it is now time to trade it for another one. Any. Zoloft. Prozac. Celexa. Savella. Ditch the Lexapro. We do not want to keep losers in our mix. That's how we end up with long lists of meds in cocktails and we still feel like crap. If it aint performing, get rid of it.
You might try switching out Klonopin for Xanax or Lorazepam or Diazepam. Klonopin is well known for worsening or causing depression in many people. It probably is not helping you achieve your goals, except for short term bandaid of lessening the right-now anxiety. Other things can do that.
You might find a small amount of Depakote ER (500mg) or Lithium (100mg-600mg) helpful.
I am not so concerned about Ambien and I don't know much about Cogentin. The other meds worry me. Simple. You are on them and in bad shape. That screams very loudly to anyone willing to listen that they should not be in your future. Adding some other med is not going to magically make all those things work great. Won't happen. It will guarantee your pdoc's financial wellbeing as he will keep getting a check from you for many more months to come.
I am kind of blunt at times, but at heart very soft. I mean everything I say with kindness for your wellbeing, even though I do not know you or your history. I take a look a list of meds, I take a look at the question, and things just kind of pop up as being obvious and I wonder why no one else saw them.
Zyprexa. Good sleep. Good on anxiety. Good at making Prozac especially, but other SSRIs too, work more completely. Tiredness goes away in a few weeks. My best time to dose was late afternoons or early evenings to prevent being real tired the next morning. It is not nearly knockout sedating as Seroquel is, but a much better overall med as far as I am concerned. The weight gain is manageable. It is a lifestyle choice that is yours and my responsibility.

I've taken zyprexa for 11 years. It is the best most effective med I have ever taken! I've taken 10mg for the better part of that time. I saw improvements with the first dose. Yes it has weight gain and elevated blood sugars to look out for. I take metformin with it for the sugars. The wieght comes from the urge to eat. Best thing to do is eat vegtables and exercise. I have lost wight on zyprexa, doing that. You just have to feel like you are starving your self but you are not. I take a stimulant with it also (wellbutrin sr) it helps with motivation, and sleepyness. Zyprexa works wonders for anxiety.

Seroquel increaes hunger...i took 100mg to go to sleep, great (only lasts 12 hours) (you talk about being out of reality! in the mornining) I was asleep while awake.
It also, in some aspects causes cognitive, dulling, yet some posts, i've written, where stimulnted in a diffrent way, you see things diffrent on Seroquel, reality

Zyprexa,
I also have been on zyprexa for years. I have wondered if I should try Wellbutrin SR in the morning (one dose in the morning, no dose in the afternoon) in order to increase daytime energy and hopefullly also reduce OCD. How have you found Wellbutrin SR interacts with Zyprexa? I am worried that I will not sleep as well if I add the wellbutrin.

I'm taking 200mg wellbutrin sr now (genaric), and find it to be ok. When I was on 300mg I was anxious all the time. I can sleep fine on it and it does give a lot of energy. Its anti depressing too. It doesn't seem to interact with zyprexa. I don't know much about OCD or if I have it.

Are you taking it at night before bed? What else are you taking it with?
