After some unsuccessful SSRI trials in the past, and being unable to tolerate MAOIs or TCAs, I've gone on an SSRI I've never tried before, Prozac.
I took 10mg for the 1st week and a half, and 20mg a day from then on. The only thing I've noticed thus far is Valium no longer does a thing to me; also, my adderall doesn't seem to work either. My doctor told me to be careful with the Valium and Prozac, as if the Valium would be more potent, but it seems to neutralize it entirely.
Does anyone know what the mechanism behind this may be? I've read something about Prozac affecting something with the 2D6 in the liver, whereas most SSRIs don't. Does it have something to do with that?
Thanks!

Prozac was extremely stimulating when first out for me and 20mg sent me climbing the walls. At the time .25 only of xanax. Lasted on prozac for three days. How can an SSRI be so different? Phillipa

Nope. Valium is metabolized by 2C19 and 3A4.
If you feel the Valium doesn't work, it is probably because Prozac is very activating.
Not sure about the Adderall. I've taken Adderall and Prozac, and felt the Adderall's effects.

I've gone through benzo withdrawal twice, after taking 30mg of Valium daily each time for up to a year. It's a bitch, especially if you go to fast. The first time I felt like I had brain damage for a month, my mind was completely shot and I felt so ill. The second time wasn't so bad, with a slow taper.
What dose of Prozac worked for you? I'm willing to give it a very long trial, as I haven't experienced any side-effects from it besides it being a bit activating. As long as it doesn't make me fat like Paxil, and to a lesser extent Zoloft, I'll stay on it.

believe it or not i only went to 20mg of prozac ,the odd 40 mg just to see what happened , an it was nothing. i may have worked against the 20mg , if your comfortable with the 20mg dont let them up your dose , it may work the opposite. just cruise along on you 20 i did for twelve weeks an was about to give in, an woke one morning an was feeling kind of, this is cool just like that. but when it poops hopefully not for long time , dont try to up the dose it dont work ,your body is saying no . so dont try more,OK
