When you switch an SSRI (in my case, Lexapro to Zoloft) do you still have to wait the normal 4-6 week timeframe to feel the effects? Would the onset be faster since the old SSRI is still in your system? Should I expect discomfort if I am going from 20mg Lexapro to 50mg Zoloft (which my pdoc tells me is the equivalent to 10mg Lexapro)?

I'm changing to Zoloft, because unfortunately, Lexapro hasn't worked at all for my situation. I'm currently on 20mg, and I haven't had much improvement with my OCD or anxiety. It also makes me incredibly tired, which would make it difficult for me to increase the dose further. I have tried taking it at night, but it hasn't helped. It has only made me incredibly exhausted in the morning, to the point where I can barely get out of bed.
Should I reduce my Lexapro dosage to 10mg before I start the Zoloft? I'm concerned about going from 20mg of Lexapro to 50mg Zoloft. I wish my pdoc was more helpful with this.

maybe, maybe not. the thing is, there really isn't a reason anyone can think of for why some people find one ssri work better for them than other ssris, even though they do the same accross a population. personally, the only ssris that i found to do anything different was sertraline, which made me feel awful; when i switch to citalopram the citalopram worked as well as it ever did right away. My guess is that if its doing *something, even if its bad, then the next one might work sooner. 50mg is a starting dose for sertraline, so you should be able to go right to that w/o any tapering.
