Hi, lovely people!
Has anyone researched a way a way to minimize dryness (skin, mouth, eyes) caused by Lamictal? There must be something that can be done without Lamictal losing efficiency. What's causing it, I wonder?
Also, I know about the binding with melanin. I'm biracial, it might affect people of colour more, don't know. What do you think?
I want to manage secondary effects a bit better. I'm bipolar II self-taught :D
Thanks!

Hello!
I take lamictal. Staying hydrated, drinking plenty of water, seems to be the best way to minimize this side effect. It's never been a real problem for me. Would adding a humidifier at home be useful?
I'd love to hear from others as well about the melanin binding, especially its effects on the eyes. I have had zero skin problems while taking this medication. What dose are you on? herpills

It affects your skin and eyes ??I do have dry mouth and some sort of thirst I guess in the morning since I take the Lamictal then and its a likely culprit.
Basically, water. But not too much -- might want to take a little gatorade or something with electrolytes.
As for skin, well, dry skin the answer is really, the more the petroleum or whatever is similar, the better. Eucerin, expensive, is heavenly. I don't know if it is sold in Spain. I have dry hands at times but I think that's a genetic thing.
As for eyes, the best, and again expensive, is Refresh Liquigel. I also don't know if it is available in Spain. But any OTC eyedrops with carboxymethylcellulose sodium (there are generics) is also heavenly and works very well. It is recommended for those with moderate to very dry eyes.
Visine and the like are way too harsh on the eye and also some formulations have a pain reliever which one can become too used to.
These are all OTC (non prescription, over the counter) in the US.-- tidings

hm, i haven't looked into this very closely. Only thing i can think off top of my head is making sure to get enough healthy fats, fish oil, olive oil, coconut. it is possible the mechanism responsible is related to lamotrigine's metabolism; it takes a large amount, and i think is acetylated in liver. if you are looking for a thing to research to figure out a better cure, that might be worth looking into.

It's great to know all this information. Thanks everybody! I will also do research on the liver thing, I find it very interesting. I think it's an antidepressant thing ...
I will report back!
Cheers

DR
Thanks for your great advice! I have looked in the net for "acetylated in liver", it looks as if the liver needs help.
I found a great link about food that helps the liver functioning and detoxify:

I will also try milk thistle :-)
Thanks for everything!
