Trazodone is an interesting choice. What are your reasons for choosing it?

Yes, but trazodone is not a TCA. It is a weak inhibitor of serotonin reuptake and does a bunch of other stuff (good and bad), but it does not inhibit the reuptake of NE like the true TCAs do. I wouldn't recommend that you not try trazodone. You never know what drug is going to hit the right target. However, if you are motivated to try a TCA at this point, you might want to look at drugs like nortriptyline or desipramine or even Asendin - a TCA with antipsychotic activity. If you have already tried loxapine and failed to respond to it, then don't bother with Asendin. Asendin is like a combination of imipramine and loxapine. You know, the anticholinergic properties of the TCAs impramine and protriptyline might mitigate your involuntary movement issues.

the role of the (5-HT)2 receptor family is not entirely clear and there are reported conversely data. If you try this, then maybe better start on a very low dosage closely monitored by your doctor.

what I have heard is that trazodone can induce strange thoughts.

Due to its alpha antagonism there is a risk for priapism. After years that drug was introduced the urologists have again found something pro sexual, libido enhancing with pro erection properties. Its a warm up of old knowledge that I recently read.

all the best for you

I don't want to sound only negative. Where there is something negative, there's maybe something positive :) Talk about crucial points with your doctor. For example cardiac stuff, syncopes with trazodone, priapism etc. Look for information on trazodone on the internet and then talk about it to have answers.

*trazodone has nothing to do with that capsula interna case !!!
