effexor-bleeding

I have recently switched from Prozac to Effexor, and I started having light vaginal bleeding around halloween time, so it has been happening for about a month now. I was wondering if Effexor could have caused it and if anyone else has experienced this?

I went to the gynecologist today and she gave me birth control pills to stop and it and she is doing a blood test for pregnancy and a cell count to make sure i am not anemic.

If you google "venlafaxine vaginal bleeding" you'll find that there are reports of this phenomenon. A number of the google hits seem to be repeats of the same case report, so it gives an exaggerated hit rate.

The best way to tell if the Effexor is causing this is to discontinue the drug, and then start taking it again. If the bleeding stops and re-starts again, you've got a pretty good case for causation. Unfortunately, discontinuing Effexor can be a difficult experience in its own right. Substituting Prozac can help minimize some of the Effexor withdrawal symptoms, and Benadryl helps with others.

Lar
