Problems with Seroquel, please help!

Posted by Roslynn on September 4, 2008, at 17:29:13

Hi everyone,

I've been taking Seroquel for almost a year now mainly for sleep and anxiety...was up to 100mg at one point, now down to 25mg. It seems I can't reduce lower than 25 mg (even doing a slow taper) without bringing on all the panic and crying jags again.
But it causes me a ton of cognitive probs and slowness during the day so I want to get off it.

I don't know what to do! i am already taking ativan up to 3mg as needed.

I know there are other sleep aids I can take but I don't know what to do about the crying jags during the day!

My other meds are lithium 600 mg (can't tolerate any higher) and EMSAM 6mg

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Best,
Roslynn

Maybe cross taper to zyprexa in the 2.5mg to 5mg range? It will have similar effects, not as strong in sedation though, and should ease or improve the symptoms you are having trouble with, and in my experience was more cognitive neutral or even enhancing rather than dulling.

Another option to somewhat mimic seroquel in several aspects would be a cross taper to remeron?

Bleauberry, thank you for suggestions! Along the same line of thought, what do you think about cross-tapering Abilify? Even thought activating, might it lessen the depression?

Remeron is a good thought but I worry about weight gain, I think that one of the side effects?

Weight gain is a huge concern for me right now because I've gained a ton on the lithium and seroquel and my knees are in really bad shape now, hard to get up the stairs.

Thanks so much for your help!

Weight gain on remeron would be same ballpark or less than the seroquel, depending on dose.
