I started Seroquel XR 200mg last night for anxiety and I was on it previously for a long time and developed TD ..tardive...whatever it is...(i dont remember the full name). Anyway, so they put me on Amandidine to fix the tremors and shaking..which thankfully it DID. When I was on it, I was on only 25 mg. NOW..I have a differnet psychiatrist and she put me on 200...but I am freaking out because of the side effects...the weight gain, possible cataracts, possible breast cancer, TD, possible diabetes, no alcohol...(dont drink much but like to have one or two...) I just didnt want to risk getting any of the side effects..plus my weight to me is a major issue and I cannot afford to gain 30-50 more pounds.
So, I called my psychiatrist and she was exasperated and said that OBVIOUSLY I wasnt anxious enough to where I would just ignore the side effects and take the medcine anyway..(IM SORRY BUT I AM NOT GOING TO IGNORE THE SIDE EFFECTS IF THEY ARE AS MAJOR AS THEY COULD BE) I am ok with it making me sleepy or dizzy or maybe upsetting my stomach but Seroquel packs on SEVERE side effects. She laughed and told me I was out of luck on medication for anxiety...
I became addicted to Benzos so I cannot use them anymore...and they were what helped me the best. I have tried almost every SSRI and she cannot find anything else to help me...There is Miltown but it is addictive.
I just got really upset that there is nothing I can take for anixety and this is the thing...I am having at least 3 anxiety attacks a day...and about one panic attack a week....(which is good...it used to be a lot worse).
I dont like the idea that I have to live with my anxiety ...severe anxiety WITHOUT medication. I know there are other ways to deal with it like Mediatation and exercise...but I need a chemical.
I am scared that I am going to turn to alcohol to try and stop my anxiey...which isnt good because drug addicts tend to turn to alcohol when they cannot get drugs and well, that is me..and I dont want it to be me.
HELP!!!
If anyone knows of a drug I could try for anxiety please let me know ...I will let you know if I have tried it or not...Thanks.

I just bought Vitamin B12 because I heard that it helps with the nervous system. I took these when I was at rehab...(only once or twice ...so I didnt get any benefits from using it) But does this really work for anxiety? How does it make you feel...I have heard that some people feel euphoric on it...and that some dont.
any opinions?
thanks.

B12 caused me to go in a dysphoric mania...meaning not nice *at all*! Very hypermanic. I've read some cautions in the medical literature about B12 and Folic Acid possibly causing manic symptoms. Be cautious..

Hi there.
Have you tried an antidepressant? Many antidepressant help anxiety. Luvox is one of them. The Cymbalta I am taking helps me.
There is also Buspar which is not a benzo. It takes a while to work but is very effective.

Luvox CR has just been released and it's for anxiety. You might see if your doc has samples yet.

I need a medication to help me ASAP (for anxiety)...I keep giving my psychiatrist names of medications and she is prety much laughing at me because I am out of luck. IT has been suggested for me to get a second opinion...but I have TRIED EVERYTHING...I am about to start back on Zoloft to give it another try, but the side effects were too much for me previously..so I am kind of wary...
any thoughts or suggestions would be great...

What AD's have you tried? Many help with anxiety and panic..I had good results with Zoloft and Lexapro. What dosage do you start with on Zoloft? You may want to consider consulting with another pdoc. I would be greatly offended if my pdoc laughed at me and didn't take my anxiety very seriously.

Ok...Im not good at distinguishing what meds are what...so I will just list all the meds I have ever tried...paxil,lexapro,cymbalta,effexor,triliptal,
wellbutrin XL, Seroquel, Depakote,Ativan, Xanax,Buspar, Valium,Klonopin, (cant use benzos anymore because I became addicted to them...)I have tried Visteral,B12,Risperdal, and the drugs I am on now are Lamictal, Lithium, and Rozerem. My dose on zoloft is 25 for a week and then increase to 50..but I am thinking of just going to the 50...I read that people with panic disorder usually start at 50...

I have heard that you cannot mix Lithium with Zoloft or any other AD for that matter...so I guess Zoloft is out of the question since I am taking lithium...?

I'm pretty sure you can take lithium with Zoloft.

Zoloft is one of those meds that can cause anxiety at LOWER doses. At 25mg had anxiety, increased to 50mg and anxiety diminished.

What do you mean you can't take benzos? Is this a restriction you're putting on yourself or what? You can always see a new psychiatrist an not have your chart forwarded to him/her. You current doctor doesn't seem very helpful. Seroquel made me in to a zombie.

Hi. I cannot take benzos because I was addicted to them for 3 years. I have been on all of them and they worked. But I enjoyed each and every one of them a littl too much and ended up in rehab because of it. SO, now my doctor will not prescribe them to me anymore..and I am having to deal with the consequences of using and abusing and now I am truly suffering for it.

You may have answered this already. I was wondering if you've tried gabapentin or any other anticonvulsants that work at least partly on GABA receptors. If you haven't, I'd try gabapentin/neurontin for your anxiety. They're not quite sure if it actually works on GABA, but p-docs use it for a variety of anxiety disorders and even to help people get off of benzos without withdrawal symptoms.
