Sorry you're having a hard time with a taper. You can go slower manybe less side effects. Did you let your pdoc know what a hard time you're having? Maybe he has some suggestions to help? Phillipa

no baby he is a waste of space, i tell you this is england you have to self help. i dont see him till sept, then he is going to be a new one most are locum,s my only option is to stay on 120mg till sept or creep down slow myself.i still need the 4mg of loz so they wont give anything else.i could open a 60mg tab an take some out to make 60 an 50 ie 110mg an make it a little slower on the withdrawl manic 666

Me and others have done this a number of times with cymbalta or effexor. Dump some of the enteric coated beads out of a capsule. 10 beads is approximately 1mg, give or take. Adjust how much to customize the doses and how long to stay at each new dose by how you feel. Or you can dump them all out into a bowl, remove the desired amount, and sprinkle the rest on applesauce, yogurt...anything soft because you don't want to chew the beads. The beads are enteric coated, the capsule is not. Just a plain ole capsule.
I wish the highly paid pros knew simple tricks like this. A couple doctors looked at me in total confusion when I said I weaned off in 2mg increments. When I told one doctor I was taking 5mg cymbalta, he said I meant 30mg because that is the pill size. I said no, it is 5mg. He said it must be a different drug then because it doesn't come in 5mg. I said no, it is cymbalta, and it does come in 5mg at my house. 10 beads is about 1mg. Blank stare. I think at that point doctors figure their patients know a lot more than the pharm reps, or their patients are a lot whackier than they thought.

You can also purchase empty capsules at a health food store. Right now I only take half of the Effexor XR capsule. I split the amount into two other empty capsules. When I take doxepin to help me sleep, I often break the capsule down into 4 equal amounts/capsules. The doxepin is a powder so I don't have the option of counting the beads but even with the Effexor, I find it's much easier to do that than to count the beads. However, when you count the beads you can have more control and can decrease by very small increments of 1 or 2 mg. at a time.
Either way you have options and can decrease at a rate that you're more comfortable with.

I just came off of Cymbalta and it was rough. I am still having brain zaps 2 weeks later, but it's tons better. My p-doc put me on Wellbutrin to come off of Cymbalta because Wellbutrin is easy to come off of. I'm off of everything for the first time in 20 years. I don't know how I will do - I will have to see. My p-doc wants me to go back on meds. I want to see how I will be off of them. I have heard that taking Benadryl while coming off Cymbalta helps, but I didn't know about that when I was coming off of it.
I am starting to have my feelings back and it's weird. I used to walk around like a zombie and now I can cry. The main thing is the pain that has come back in my joints and muscles - it's awful. Hang in there - it will get better.
This is the end of the thread.
