Took Ambien and Ativan for years for insomnia. New pdoc cut those out and has me on Visteril/hydroxine pam/prescription benadryll
anyone else try this for insomnia? my doc says I can take it forever as it is just a histimine, but I already seem to be developing a tolerance after a month
I will say the first month I took it I got the best nights sleep everynight, much better then the sleep I got with Ambien or benzos
I am just affraid a quick tolerance will build and this will become ineffectively quickly. I don't see why my doctor is telling me it won't
thoughts? anyone else take this for insomnia?

Hi
I took Visteril for a while. It didn't take me long to build up a tolerance. I can't remember how long, but it did happen.
I wish there was a real magic pill for insomnia.

Didn't know there was a prescription strength benydryl ll? I know for me that regular benydryl just made me feel a little tired. Have you tried the combo yet? Could you post your results? Thanks Phillipa and good luck!!!!!

I have taken hydroxyzine/vistaril for sleep, and it worked at 12.5 mg for maybe three hours. Took 25 mg for a week, and that worked but didn't last past 4:30 a.m. Took 50 mg, and that lasted a couple weeks but then didn't work as well. Doc said I could take another 25 mg every four hours at night, but it really didn't do much of anything after that first couple weeks.
If I stop taking it, however, then start again, it seems to work again. But not for long. Benedryl works better and for longer, in my experience, but it leaves me feeling more hungover ... even if I haven't slept.
This is the end of the thread.
