Clonazepam with alcohol

Posted by SadDoggie on July 12, 2008, at 5:02:06

Does anyone know how much wine is ok to drink if I take .5mg of clonazepam three times a day? I also take 75mg of Effexor three times a day (non-sustained release). I've taken half a glass of wine with no problem, but I was just wondering how much is ok. I rarely drink, just wondering like for a party, New Years, etc.

Its considered more recreational, mixing any benzo with alcohol. but if you do it, just please say your alive.

Now say if you took a higher dose, but im not going to say there any limit. Its used recreational to relax as far as im concerned.

I cant relax, hell i have crazy sweats i go through, thinking i've been somewhere, lost, memory, anxiety cripples me.

Just start low

Like with all the GABAergics (except for barbs) you develop tolerance to the respiratory depression more rapidly than you develop tolerance to their sedative action. But since the interaction is synergistic, you do want to start low.

4 mg of clonazepam once a day with about 4 drinks was alright for me; subjectively, I was drunk but not in a stupor. However this was after titrating the clonazepam up by 0.5 mg weekly and comes from a person who usually has at least one drink a day.

4mg of Klonopin with 4 drinks is for a very rapid metabolizer with considerable weight to not have respiratory depression. That is a LOT of CNS depressant medication with alcohol.

Yes, I did have *at one point* more alcohol than I probably should have had with a higher dose of Valium. But again, in recent times I have always been a heavyset individual with rapid metabolism of at least some substances.

Point being, they're not barbiturates or I'd say just look at the past history of celebrities, but they still have risk of respiratory depression (up to coma).

Moderation, moderation. Only you will know when you have exceeded it and hopefully be conscious.

Also, with effexor, I mean it sounds like you're taking medication for anxiety and depression, if I'm speculating -- the alcohol will stimulate but ultimately affect it too, so keep that in mind. And it will only shorten an anxiety provoking situation, just like .... the medication is supposed to in the first place.

-- best wishes
