XL would just be an extended release delivery system as a pill so you dont have to take multiple pills a day. On the other hand in reality its much more expensive than generic wellbutrin/Bupropion.
The studies that showed weight loss were using 400mg which is more or less the highest dose prescribed. On 300mg i was so irritable i wanted to kill people if they created even the most minor annoyance so i cant imagine 400.
Keep in mind i have extensive experience with real stimulants like amphetamine so im not sure what it was about wellbutrin that set me off so badly but other people have experianced it too.

I have been on Wellbutrin 300 mg for 6 months now and have dropped 18 pounds. My anxiety level is getting under control and insomnia is the worse side effect. I would like to suggest to you to look up other post here regarding the generics for Welllbutrin XL. Several people (me included) have had some bad experiences with the generic BUDEPRION. If you are taking this generic, you may be having side effects from it. Try and get the generic Bupropion. It is made by Glaxo. the other one is by TEVA and if all of us are for real, it is causing a whole host of hostile feelings, rage, crying and all. Change to Buproprion and these problems seem to go away.

you know...i just assumed that my crying was because the med WASN"T working. and my depression was back. but maybe it was this side effect? or effect of making you cry?
i ended up adding my other AD ontop of it. it is the Budeprion from TEVA, i thought TEVA was better than LEMON, thus with less SE, but maybe when i talk with pdoc to tell him about this episode i will suggest that it was from the generic and ask for script of buproprion OR brand name...thanks for reminding me kowaligirl!
