I am a long time user off SSRIs and after going off a few times (or maybe just lost effectiveness over time?) , I get very little response with any of them!
With research and reading reviews on here, it seems that meds like gabapentin can dramatically help sleep and anxiety and Mirapex can help depression. I really want to try some of these drugs to finally get that cure.
I asked a couple docs already and they wouldnt give it since i didnt have epilepsy, and my new psychiatrist is open to them but only as a last resort (if 4 years of lack of results isnt a last resort i dont know what is) ... wants to put me on seroquel only as he thinks I may have mild bipolar (but ive always presented with only low mood).
I got no problem with seroquel but I know ill need something extra for the depression - he thinks i may have a slight bipolar. Ugh. I feel im going in circles.
How did you guys get this stuff prescribed thats technically "off label"! Without this board I think I would have lost hope.

>Your pdoc sounds okay. I'd stick with him. Don't get obsessed with neurontin or Mirapex. I've taken both. The neurontin didn't do anything at all. The Mirapex helped my Restless Leg Syndrome, although I took it at sub-therapeutic relative to depression.
But afaik the Mirapex research has involved mainly Bipolar illnesses. I may be trying it soon. My pdoc is also a bit reluctant about it (I got my old script from a neurologist). I think they prefer to use medications they have personal experience with, at least at first, since they have a better feeling for them.
I'd listen to the doctor, since he is open to them. And I can relate to your problem, since I took practically every drug known to man over the course of 20 years. Now they tell me I'm bipolar, so I have another list to go through :)

>I do one of three things:
1. In a stern but polite way tell the doctor I really want to try this med and let's not waste any more time about it.
2. Seek another doctor.
3. Order the meds myself. Internet technology changed everything. Whatever someone wants mailorder can likely be found without much trouble. Psychiatric meds are pretty easy to get if you don't mind a 10 - 14 day mailing lag time.
