are there still people taking marplan (isocarb...)

Posted by sdb on May 22, 2008, at 13:47:33

there is much ongoing discussion about Nardil (phenelzine). Is the oldie marplan (Isocarboxazid) a possible alternative to Nardil and is the marplan still used here? And if yes, does the marplan work?

some information could be useful for people here on Nardil willing to take something similar.

Marplan is still available. I tried it in 2003 and it was okay, but didn't do a great deal for my anxiety, whch is what I was taking it for. I think the only side effect was low blood pressure, causing me to stagger slightly in the colege library. Marplan is more like Nadil than Parnate, amd is less likely to cause liver irritation/toxicity. It's probably the mildest out of the three in terms of side effects and therapeutic effect. Some people find it very effective.

I just went off it after being on it for about 8 months. I didn't really have any side effects which was nice, until I got to about 40 mgs (I eventually went back to 30). Unfortunately it just didn't work for me (I have major depression with anxiety). The only side effect I had was feeling lightheaded, like I felt on Nardil when I got to 60 mgs. But I had a lot of other side effects on Nardil and Marplan was nothing like that. Most of the time I didn't feel like I was taking anything at all (which can be a good or bad thing depending how you look at it). There was a guy who used to post here (Tecknohed) who had great success with Marplan. If you do a search on him you'll see what I'm talking about. He felt great on it, but I didn't. Maybe it'll work for you too.
