Please help ... about prozac (increased dose)

Posted by Happyflower on April 1, 2008, at 17:06:17

Okay, I haven't been on the around much, been blocked for a long time so it is hard to update with all the stuff that has happened. But lets just say I was triggered into PTSD again. I am in therapy. Most of symptoms are manageable now, a month 1/2 later, except my depression got much worse. I had no energy and wanted to sleep all day plus I ached all over. Eating breakfast made me tired and I went back to bed after my meals. I had to drop 2 out of my 3 classes because I couldn't do it. I am taking the summer off to help get through the trauma therapy and then start ego strength training in the fall.

6 mo. ago I started prozac 20mg once a day for mild depression. But now after I told my doctor it isn't working anymore, he set me up with 20mg twice a day last Fri. On Sat and Sun, I had trouble even getting to sleep at a normal time and didn't take any naps either. Nothing like feeling depressed and can't sleep.
But now since yesterday I feel like I have crashed, now I feel tired again, but last night I got a my first good nights sleep in months. Woke up and even did restorative yoga and bought some pansies to plant, feeling better, but I came home and took a nap. But I still feel sleepy and I am having trouble waking up fully.
So I guess I am not even sure what I am asking. I guess it is too soon to tell if this higher dose is going to work. I guess my body is still adjusting. I am not even sure I am thinking straight right now to write this message.

Today was the first brightness in my life I have had in a long time, so maybe it is starting to work. I guess it hasn't even been a week so far. Is this something others have experienced getting used to a drug.
My pharmacist said welcome to the world of anti depressants when I called him because I couldn't sleep.

Happyflower he really said that?? Can you get something to help with sleep? Sounds like it may be working for you. I wish you the best on your new dose and may it work swiftly and well for you. Love Phillipa

~~~ I am hoping this is an adjustment phase for you. IMO, it probably is.
I've had ONE person I've known who experienced a spontanious remission of symptoms post medicated -which I believe would be nirvana and is what most wish, however, most of us (and I bet you too) can very well attest to: two steps forward and one back for quite some time. Hopefully, this gives way to the good outweighing the difficult.... I wish you the good.
Thanks for your responses. I think it might be working a little better for me. I had a good day, and of course I overdid it because I felt better. But my kids needed some attention so we bought books and had lunch. I have some great kids, I really do.
My doc. told me that the results should be faster since I was already taking prozac, than waiting for my body to adjust to the drugs completely new.
Thanks for your support you two! ;-)
((((Phillipa)))) Thanks! It is probably too soon to tell it has only been 6 days, but I am trying to remain positive. I hope I will feel even better in a weeks or two.
