Nardil Weight Gain Help

Posted by maoi_wowee on March 28, 2008, at 20:00:20

I have piled on 40lbs+ in just a couple of months on Nardil and am getting desperate. I exercise regularly (and intensely), but I can't seem to stop myself from overeating.

Would augmenting Nardil w/Methylphenidate or anything else help some with the weight gain?

Any other solutions?

In my opinion, you may want to consider [1] reducing the amount of Nardil [per your pdoc's approval], which may take away the carb cravings we all know too well, [2] focus more on what you eat and not as much on exercise, such as eating raw veggies [celery, carrots, etc] rather than carbs when you are starving, [3] yes considering augmenting with another drug [SLS would be able to provide some good insight on this].

For now, I just hope you are not too hard on yourself. There are always going to be tradeoffs. I can only speak for myself, but I prefer being overweight and feeling better, then skinny and not wanting to exist a minute longer.

Please keep us posted on everything. Thanks, Michael

Is it fluid, then?

That's what causes oedema(sp?) for some on Nardil?

> my doc said it was visceral fat

I should have qualified my original post by saying that most of the weight I've put on with Nardil was before I started craving carbs and basically binging.

In fact, I put on a tremendous amount of weight on Nardil (dozens of pounds) in a very short period of time during which I was on a strictly low-carb/no-carb diet and exercising intensely 5+ days/week.

So, I think there are multiple causes to the Nardil weight gain. For me, it was water retention plus constipation plus some kind of mysterious fat gain (I guess the visceral fat that FredPotter mentions) and finally (just in the past couple of weeks after being on Nardil for several months) carb cravings leading to late-night overeating.
