sorry, posted before i had finished. i am hoping to get some type of immediate results from this. i must keep my business up and running as i have relied on my co-workers to basically carry me for the past year. Any thoughts on effexor? Have you had any good results?

Just from my next door neighbor who was on it for a year and had great results. Not all of a sudden her face puffed up and she turns red so her pdoc is weaning her off it and said it was too stong. So if you're looking for something strong it should work. And good luck . Phillipa and by the way welcome to babble.

Effexor worked great for me for 4-5 years til it pooped out. It was a gradual poop out. But they say all SSRI's and maybe all SNRIs poop out eventually. But it controlled my anxiety and kept my depression at a manageable level. Don't expect immediate results. Like all AD's it takes a while to work. At least a couple of weeks, maybe three. I'd say go for it.

Effexor tended to make me very lethargic and sleepy. While I was on it, all I seemed to want to do all day was just lie down on the sofa.

Saying that I didn't get any 'black' moods while taking it nor did I get any disabling anxiety or panic.

I know a lot of people on here do really well with it and have very few problems with it.

Not sure if anxiety is a symptom of yours, but if it is, have you considered taking a benzodiazepine? It may help while the Effexor is taking time to build up and kick in? Just a thought...

Hope you are feeling OK soon and best of luck!

Effexor really works for me. I've been on it for years - albeit with increasing doses (up to 600mg now).

I remember when I first started taking it I would get a lot of anxiety. It took a while to get me to a dose that started having anti-depressant effects. So we started increasing by 37.5mg at a time as 75mg increases make me anxious again.

Truthfully though, I was pretty impatient & so I kinda pushed the doc to increase it more often without giving each dose a proper time to work. Fcuk it though - when you're really depressed, I think wanting to feel better ASAP is forgivable. So I forgive myself (!).

But now I'm on the max he'll prescribe. So if it stops working for me one day, I think I'll just run into a police station pointing a plastic gun around so they can solve it all for me.

Good Luck...!
