effexor and fatigue

Posted by Worn out on March 8, 2008, at 4:04:34

I have been taking effexor for a while, and am wondering if its the cause of my constant tiredness?I usually have to drag myself out of bed,and go back to lie down and sleep any chance I get.Should I just stop taking it and see if I improve, its so hard to get through the day lately because I'm so tired. I have had blood tests etc to check for other causes, but the doctor has never said it could be the effexor.
Thank you to anyone who might reply

Hi

I took 225mg of Effexor for several months - and had the exact same fatigue and tiredness. All I wanted to do was just lie down all day and do nothing! I'm certain it wasn't the depression as fatigue wasn't one of my main symptoms at the time.

I ended up switching to 60mg of Prozac which didn't have the same 'energy sapping' side effects as the Effexor.

Some people on here do well on Effexor, but I'm afraid I won't be trying it again - not unless I'm playing on becoming totally lethargic!

I never had that problem with Effexor. The highest dose I ever took, though, was 75mg and I was mostly on 37.5mg. Cymbalta, another SNSI didn't exactly cause me fatigue but it did mean that I could and did nap during the afternoon or on the couch at night. I have read that nortriptyline enhancing drugs can cause fatigue in some people.

You might want to try a straight SSRI. Prozac is supposed to be pretty energizing.

I've been on 600mg effexor & 225 remeron for a year now. For me, the effexor gives me more energy & the remeron helps me to sleep.

But looking at the list of possible side effects listed for effexor, well - practically anything is possible. So if the tiredness has coincided with the effexor, maybe you should try upping the dose or changing to another one altogether.

Are you taking it in the morning? If you are then I suggest taking it at night instead. Try that.

Good Luck..!

I asked a pharmacist and she said to try taking it in the morning.
I don't know,I've just tried not taking it at all for a couple of days, I'll see how I go.
Thank you for advice

I'd be very careful not taking the Effexor for a couple of days. When I tried to come off the stuff (under my doctor's supervision) I had withdrawal effects which weren't pleasant - even though the withdrawal was gradual.

I think the best thing is to give it a bit longer. If you still fatigued - and it's bothering you, go back to your doctor and ask to change medications.

Hope all goes well for you!
