PHARMACY STILL CAN'T GET NARDIL

Posted by Justherself54 on January 24, 2008, at 16:12:59

I'm about to have a meltdown! ERFA says they are getting it on Monday, shipping it to wholesalers on Tuesday and pharmacies should be able to get it on Wednesday..but can you believe them? There's been so many delays..I'm worried..it just shouldn't be up to the patient to have to make a gazillion phone calls to different pharmacies to try to get a bottle so they can keep going..I'm really tired of worrying about this!

It's totally ridiculous. I went through the same thing and almost ran out, as you know. I'm not sure what to do when I have to refill my prescription in 3 weeks or so. Almost considering having an internet pharmacy from the US fill it instead. My pdoc is OK with this. It's just too stressful having delay after delay from ERFA and then trying to find SOME pharmacy that has it in stock. It's really a nightmare to find a drug that finally works, but then making it virtually impossible to fill prescriptions every time...

Do you have any Costco's in Canada, as I think this is where you live?

Try Costco.com for locations. Their pharmacies carry most drugs, worth a try...

I scooped Costco's last remaining bottle on the 17th..and one of the Safeways in the city has their remaining bottle earmarked for me..thank goodness I have friends in the city that will get it, pay for it and courier it to me..it's just a frustrating situation....thanks for your suggestion..I appreciate it..

Nardil is very availble in the usa... I know U.S .ppl can order from Canada maybe the reverse is true...Also some insurance plans let you order a three month supply of your meds maybe you should see if yours will let you do that...At least you would be set for three months!

I'll know this week if my pharmacy gets it in, otherwise I'll have to get creative..I have met my deductible, so I want to get 3 months of it at no cost..plus all the other meds I take too!

Thanks for your concern! Just called my pharmacist..their distributor has not received any yet..no one seems to know when it's going to arrive..she said the Manitoba internet pharmacies wouldn't have it as they deal with the same distributor..I'm going to call ERFA and see what kind of excuse they come up with this time..I'm getting so frustrated.

Just called ERFA..now they're saying it will be at the distributors on Friday..she mumbled something about border documents were done incorrectly but it's been sorted out..guess I'll have to wait and see..one of the pharmacies in the city (3 hours away) is holding on to a bottle for me..what a can of worms this is turning out to be!

Do you have enough for another few days?

Wow, how often do you have to go through this? I hope there is someone who can help you get this sorted out so that every month does not turn out the same way, that's frustrating.

I only had a problem the first month ordering it then once th pharmacy ordered it, it was most always in stock.

Can you order it online in the US? We seem to have alot or rather enough, although one can never be too sure about meds that are not first line meds, like MAO's.

Good luck in getting it on Friday...something sounds really messed up, although I heard last night on TV that the FDA is really messed up too and how this impacts anyone here is anybody's guess. I think the FDA played a role in the 2003 new Nardil's lack of testing compared to the old Nardil, assuming they were the same med, but with all the new ingredients added, there was a profound difference to the old Nardil, especially it's effective dose and side effect profile.

It is a mess..I don't believe the wholesaler any more..they come up with one excuse after another..I have 5 days left..I did try online pharmacies but the cost is tripled and they take a week to ship, so I'm no better off..thankfully I have that one bottle saved for me in the city and my friend will get it for me and courier it..after that I hope it's straightened out..

My pdoc is not very happy with this either as he does not want me to have to stop this med..and neither do I..

I'll be checking with my pharmacy on Friday and see if it's at their distributor..if not maybe I'll put a call into the newspapers..might not get anything done..but I think people need to know this thing happens all the time according to my pharmacist..

Thanks for listening to my rant..I left out some swear words!

Sorry Justherself. I know how stressful it is. I went through this on my last refill. Now, I have a little less than 2 weeks left, less if my pdoc increase me to 90mg today. I know of NO pharmacy in town that has it in stock and I have now called about 70 pharmacies in total. I got it from a frickin local prison pharmacy last time as a special one time "compassionate" basis. They won't help me again. One hospital has it, but they absolutely won't dispense it to non-inpatients. I tried, my pdoc tried. No go. So if this ERFA delay goes on much longer, I will run out too. I can't keep thinking about this. I t's always such a struggle to get this stuff, but it works. I'm becoming paranoid about refilling my next prescription...

Good luck to you in getting some soon. I'm glad that you know you have a bottle waiting for you in the city. At least that will last a few weeks, and I guess we just have to hope that it will be back in pharmacies by then.

OK, now I'm in the same situation. I just had my dose increased to 90mg. So I have about 9-10 days worth of Nardil. The search begins again. Damn ERFA.

I have no local options anymore. I will also call ERFA today. My pdoc offered to call ERFA himself next week if I haven't had any success. They will probably just give him the runaround too though. How can a responsible pharmaceutical manufacturer let one of their products be unavailable for such a length of time??? I mean, for sure there are many other people in our situation, probably some of whom have had to stop the drug because of supply issues. Its unbelievable... You'd think that maybe they would bring in some supply from a nother country to fill the gap as a customer service gesture...

Thanks Justherself. I will try that on Monday. Called ERFA on Friday and left a message but they didn't call me back. I'm not going to actually increase my dose again until my new prescription is filled.

Still more excuses! I'm getting my friend in the city to send me out the one remaining (that I know of) bottle a pharmacy has been holding for me. This is absolutely scaring me.

My pharmacist was told by the distributors they were sending it out as it was coming in to them..made it sound like it was coming in dribs and drabs..my pharmacist calls every morning and it hasn't showed up yet..

Is this going to continue to happen??? I don't want to go off Nardil, but what choice do I have if it's not available in Canada..internet pharmacies charge over $70 and it takes a week to get here..and how come they have it and our pharmacies don't!

ERFA still continues to change their stories and frankly I don't believe a word they are saying anymore...

Thanks for listening to me vent!
