Two Mood Stabilizers?

Posted by ajax1 on December 29, 2007, at 21:31:04

Hi
I'm diagnosed BP II with depression as my main symptom. I've tried about everything with little success. Recently, I tried 150mg Lithium and have had some positive results, but it ended up making me a little over-activated. I know some people combine mood stabilizers. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which ones would be good and the amounts. I tend to be very responsive to anything and use small amounts.
Thanks
Reed

You shouldn't have to take a mood stabiliser to offset an another mood stabiliser. You be able to find that work. Lamictal is good for depression and is a mood stabiliser. I can't guess what dosage you would need since you react differently to meds.

Good luck!

I've tried Lamictal, but it causes me to become hypomanic.
Thanks for your input

It's odd that mood stabilisers make you manic.

Here is a link to a site that I love. It describes many mood stabilisers and when to use what.

Hope you find relief soon. What else have you tried?

Thanks for the site. I've tried all the ADs-- which make me manic. Depakote etc make me depressed. Lamictal, Topomax, etc make me hypomanic. Currently, I take .75 xanax a day plus 300 Neurontin for sleep, but still suffer from depression and also insomnia and irritability.
Thanks again

Zyprexa will knock out depression and hypomania. Sounds like you have tried a lot. I know what it's like.

I don't know if you've tried seroquel, but I've heard of people taking seroquel with lithium.
