What dose of Zyprexa are you guys on? I was started out at 2.5 mg when I first tried it a couple of years ago. I just restarted it and have found that now it takes at least 7.5 mg to do the trick. Is this a high dose?

This is a hard question to pose. It depends on what the drug is being treated for, how long someone has been on it, s/effects etc etc
I was started out at 2.5 mg when I first tried it a couple of years ago. I just restarted it and have found that now it takes at least 7.5 mg to do the trick. Is this a high dose?No- 7.5mg is a small dose. I have known patients to go as high a 60-80mg. I don't have my files with me describing the pharmacology, contraindications, blah blah blah....but 7.5mg is preety low- esp if it is being used for a psychotic disorer. If it is being used as an augmentative drug, i.e. for OCD, Anxiety D/o's etc etc, you are on a reasonably high dose. Not something to be extremely worried or anything!

I was on 2.5mg as well....any higher level induced a depression. Had to say goodbye to this drug....the weight gain was brutal!

I take 30mgs and it doesn't even phase me anymore. I could take more. In the beginning, 5mgs made me sleep for 20 hrs, now it just calms me and my thoughts like a nice blue wave.
Weight gain sucks, but seems like it is being reversed by metaformin (glucophage).

Do you think the weight gain is a direct result of the Zyprexa or is it an indirect effect because the Zyprexa makes you hungry as a horse? For me I haven't ever gained weight on Zyprexa, (though I've never been on it more than a month or two). But I think the reason I don't gain weight is because I am a recovering bulimic (except when I take Zyprexa, then I am an active bulimic). It makes me starving, I eat a ton of food but then I go and throw it all up.
I have found that if I take 100 mg of Provigil along with the Zyprexa, the Provigil cancels out the Zyprexa induced hunger. Of course, the Provigil makes my anxiety and nervousness worse.
Tradeoffs...
