Nardil question from current user

Posted by cbtcbt on December 1, 2007, at 10:05:42

MY QUESTIONS:

I have been on 60mg for 6 weeks. I sleep really well, and have not had any weight gain (although I am fairly disciplined about diet). Am I just lucky or will these problems come later?

Also, when does the anorgasmia end? After 3rd week to now (6th week), and I have not been able to come (and I have tried very hard).

Thanks for your input.

MY EXPERIENCE:

During first months (approximate)
– intense orgasms (enjoy while this lasts. I am tempted to re-start nardil for this experience)
– Dry mouth
– Feel high and medicated
– Nauseous
– drowsy

During second month
– Dizzy when getting up or physically exerting myself, even if walking up flight of stairs. (Fortunately, this decreased over time)
– Less interest in sex
– Smoke LOT more. Really crave nicotine.
– Minor muscle twitches (mycloneus)

So far (2 months), I still do not have major weight gain or sleep problems.

For optimal sleep, I take 2 before sleep, and 2 in the middle of my sleep. I slept very poorly with SSRIs, so maybe my sleep now is just normal. I do like to take naps at lunch, because Nardil makes me bit drowsy.

I eat lost less than before because Nardil gives me more self control, and I just have less of an appetite. I crave sweets though.

Food restrictions- very minor consideration in deciding if to take Nardil. I have eaten certain foods that have made my heart beat really hard. Suspect it was tyramine reaction.

Now, I enjoy life more, more relaxed, positive outlook. I also have better self-control (ie. anger, food)

You need take these things into account:

1. How long have you been on Nardil in total.
2. How severe was the problem when you were on 45mg.
3. Are you taking any other meds.

If you haven't been on Nardil very long in total (8 weeks?), and it wasn't a problem at 45mg, there's a good likelyhood that it will improve over time. Weeks to a couple months, I'd guess.

I didn't have much of problem with this, but Klonopin, Neurontin and Provigil each made the problem *much* worse. Any alcohol at all might be counterproductive as well.

Also, you might do better if you take your Nardil after your "recreation".

I wouldn't expect significant weight gain if you can stay disciplined, and your level of activity stays the same. Once at a therapeutic dose, Nardil never gave me insomnia. In fact, my afternoon sleepiness kept getting worse until I could sleep almost continually and always ended up combining it with a stimulant. So you might not get insomnia, but I'm not sure that's really reassuring. ;)

P.S.: If you're eating something that's making your heart beat "really hard," and you're strictly following the MAOI diet, you absolutely have to find out what's going on, ASAP. This is not only something not to fool around with, it may be a reason to discontinue the drug. If it happens again, take your blood pressure. There's always a chance that eating a meal has caused your BP to drop, which makes your heart beat harder.

hmm, I dont know if your sex life will improve much.. sometimes if your lucky.. Interesting that you dont crave so much food and no weight gain.. it may come soon... mostly once you hit 80% mao inhibition you will get most of the maoi side effects (not the ones you get from first week eg. weakness ,dizzy, heavy limbs) but, insomnia, anorgasmia, weight gain. This may go away after about for months. Im no doc but it seems you have just hit 80%maoinhibition, so expect side effects to change and maybe more bothersome, after a couple monthe You should be fine. Just My experience and reading. Good Luck eh
