MY DR. RECENTLY PRESCRIBED LUNESTA FOR ME FOR SLEEP PROBLEMS. I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS FALLING ASLEEP AND STAYING ASLEEP. BEFORE LUNESTA, I WAS ON 30 MG. OF RESTORIL. IT HELPED ME FALL ASLEEP, BUT NOT STAY ASLEEP. WHEN I TOOK LUNESTA, IT GAVE ME A FEELING OF ALMOST A STIMULANT TYPE. I EVENTUALLY DID FALL ASLEEP, BUT DID NOT STAY ASLEEP BECAUSE OF THIS FEELING.
DID ANYONE OUT THERE WHO'S TAKEN LUNESTA GET THAT SAME STIMULANT FEELING IN THE BEGINNING, AND IF SO, DOES IT EVENTUALLY GO AWAY? I TAKE 3 MG. OF LUNESTA AND THAT STIMULANT FEELING GOES ON TO THE BETTER PART OF THE NEXT DAY.
ANY SUGESTIONS?

Many people get paridoxical effects to meds, myself included. I've had excitement/stimulation from diphenhydramine (an OTC sleep remedy) before, mainly when I've taken too much. In fact, taking too much of any sedative can commonly cause paridoxical effects, benzos included.
(paridoxical - I've used that word alot lately, maybe I should change my name to it! lol)

i'VE NEVER HEARD OF THAT WORD BEFORE, BUT I HAVE A VERY HIGH TOLERANCE TO ALL PAIN RELIEVERS AND BENZOS. THAT'S PROBABLY WHY MY DOCTOR STARTED ME OUT AT 3 MG. OF LUNESTA. I DO NOT LIKE THIS FEELING AT ALL! I AM CONSIDERING STOPPING IT ALREADY.
THANKS FOR THE INFO TECHNOHEAD!

Tech you know for over a year I've wondered if benzos could now have a paradoxical effect on me (love that word acting the opposite of how it should) as they no longer relax me no more Ahhh feeling. So lunesta being a psuedobenzo can of course as any med cause this. Love Phillipa

> DONNA*You could be getting the 'PARIDOXICAL' (lol) effect because you went strait onto too high a dose (for you). Why not try 1 or 1.5mg at night to see if that helps better?

Try Melatonin, you can buy it at the Grocery store. Comes in 1mg & 3mg strength's. I take a half of 1mg when I find sleep difficult. It's natural and works great.

It's in the grocery store now? Phillipa has to be safe as kids can buy it. What would happen if they took the whole thing? Nothing I guess.
