How to avoid Provigil crash?

Posted by Mishal on September 17, 2007, at 2:41:52

I take provigil 200mg in the morning.

But I almost crash by noon. Crash into moderate depression.

Is there a way to avoid this crash? Will dosing it twice daily help? I mean 100mg in the morning and at noon?

Don't recommend amphetamine like stimmulants. They are not available here in this part of world.

Hi Mishal,

I started out at 100mg in the morning, and I also had the afternoon "crash", although it just made me very sleepy, I did not get depressed.

Doc changed dose to 100mg morning and 100mg afternoon, and that was too much... I felt overly stimulated.... shaky and nervous.

I now take 50mg morning and 50mg afternoon, and it is working very well for me... steady help with energy and focus. I read here at PB that this med is supposed to work "in the background". I understood that to mean that I should not have that amphetamine like feeling of "raciness".

Maybe you could try splitting up your 200mg into two doses, or it could be that you will need 200mg twice a day. I believe that is well within the dosage guidelines.

I take Provigil as augmentation of EMSAM. Are you on just Provigil?

Best of luck,

Janet

It might sound a little weird but before I know the crash and burn effect is coming, I have a cup of coffee mixed with both regular and decaf. Does the trick everytime. Good Luck

I think I might be because you are on a low dose.

I too feel shaky on Provigil, but not anxious. That's a blessing.

200mg twice a day is the maximum dose as far as I know. I don't want to be on the max.dose of any medicine. I reserve the maximum of all medications as an emergency measure.

I take it to combat Luvox sedation. Have been on a good dose of Luvox (150mg daily) to say, so far Luvox has been the best antidepressant for me in terms of efficacy and lack of significant sexual side effects.

BTW, how long have you been on Provigil? I have just started taking it.

Best of luck to you too

Mishal

Provigil is an inducer of its own metabolism, so after you take it for a while the levels in your body drop. It is not uncommon to need to raise the dose after taking it for a few weeks. 200 mgs, 2X/a day fixed this problem for me.
