Hi everyone--
I've tried a whole lot of stimulants, but for me, Adderall XR has worked best, and I'm currently on 30mg twice a day. Of the Ritalin family, I've only tried Concerta, and it was before I reached such a high dose of Adderall. At the time, I took 81mg in the morning. Adderall still helps with my attention and focus, but it doesn't pack the same punch that it did when I started it some years ago. I'm curious about Focalin XR. What dose would I need to match 60mg of Adderall XR? How long does it last? Any experiences comparing Adderall and Focalin? Would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

As far as dose goes, dose equivalence may be less of an issue since a lot of people don't experience cross-tolerance between methylphenidate and amphetamine -- hence you trying it. A lower dose might suffice.
A lot of the folks I've talked to that have been on ADD/ADHD treatments for a long time end up switching every once in a while (depending on how quickly tolereance to the therapeutic effect develops, or whether it develops at all) between methylphenidate formulations and amphetamines. Works for them.

Hi, I too, have been on the whole gamit of stims as well. Focalin worked wonderful for me for a short period of time, then all of a sudden caused a major mood drop. Then the pop-out happened. If it works for you, it's a wonderful med though. Gives tremendous focus and concentration as well as a burst of energy spread out through the day without wakefulness through the night. Good Luck!!

Hi Rina,
What dose of Focalin were you on and what dose of Adderall do you take? How long until the poop-out happened, and did it happen all at once, or was it more gradual?
Thanks!

The focalin was wonderful in the begining. I was on 40mg. Then it shifted drastically about a month later starting with severe mood swings and then stopped working all together. The adderallxr in currently on 40mg.

Thanks rina! One of the ways I can tell if a stim is working is by looking at my appetite. Does Focalin cause appetite suppression? I know it doesn't last forever, but when a stim really works for me, I can be so focused that I forget and have no interest in eating. Just wondering. Thanks!

yeah it does cut your appetite but not like ritalin or adderall. in my opinion it is the best in regards to focus and concentration though. good luck!
