I can't describe it any other way than the lights are always on. It's not like my mind races like it used to, but when I try to sleep it's like my brain just doesn't shut off. I haven't slept well in a long time, and it's started to wear on me. If i sleep for many hours I can get enough rest, but I haven't had quality sleep. I have also had chattering teeth. It looks like I'm shivering, but I'm not cold, and I'm not shaking all over.
I'm on 200 mg. Do you think a lower dose would fix this? I'm going to try to see my pdoc soon. I have an appt for Oct, but that's too far away. I think this needs to be addressed now.
In addition I also take 10 mg of Lexapro and .25 mg of xanax as needed.

Yup. That is a side effect some get on Lamictal.
For me, at 300 mgs, Lamictal is side effect free
but insomnia is reported by some people. Much like you describe.I call my pdoc when I have problems and often they can be handled by phone.

Lamictal has a sedating effect for me. Geodon gave me akathisia. We are all so different.
I still usually take my 5mg of ambien for sleep.
Good luck.

"leaving the lights on"
EXCELLENT description.. i have that as well on 200mg lamictal. my mind wasnt racing..it was just turned on.. sitting there. i would sleep eventually after well..after 2+ hours .i also wake up all night long (but fall back asleep) and have tumultous dreams i cant remember.i wasnt functioning in the mornings due to fatigue and just couldnt keep my eyes open. Nightly ambien helped a lot. I recently added 20mg of geodon to the mix and im finally sleeping again without ambien!! its not the best sleep..but its good enough.
lamictal has tons of weird little insidious effects. loss of coordination.. light tremor.. some daytime fatigue.. some cognitive effects..constipation. still a good med..but yeah.. my temperature regulation is screwed.

I sleep like crap, but I haven't had any weird dreams. And I've always had trouble falling asleep. It just annoys me that now I have trouble sleeping well, and sometimes trouble staying asleep.

>Oy, Ambien messed me up! It didn't work and it made me feel horrible for a week. Achy all over, and panicky as all get out.

I get the light tremors sometimes. The cognitive effects have subsided. When I was first starting on it, I was really stupid LOL. Funny enough, my temperature regulation is better. It was always messed up before, and now, I'm just a bit hot all the time, as opposed to being hot and cold at all kinds of weird times.
It is a good med, I've never felt better in my life, but I wish I could SLEEP!!!
