I have been taking Adderall XR (only 5 mgs) along with 10 mgs of fluoxetine. There are times throughout the day where I just to want curl up and sleep. I feel exhausted. I know it's a low dose but does this happen on CNS stims for ADHD?

Your experience doesn't sound typical at all. There are a lot of folks who are on a CNS stim for ADHD that describe a "calming" effect, even some sedation (esp w/ Desoxyn, also d-amphetamine, but much less so with Ritalin or Adderall), but I've never heard anyone describe it as "exhausted," which to me implies a feeling of physical fatigue, not sleepiness.
How long after taking the Adderall XR do you feel this? How long have you been on the fluoxetine?

Your experience sounds quite common with me. I take Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) IR 10mg 3x a day,(as well as 60mg Prozac, 1mg Risperdal, 1mg clonazepam, 25mg Nortriptyline at bedtime) and I *need* to make time in every day for a nap. That usually means holding my Dex afternoon dose off until later in the afternoon, or if I am working in the evening, later in the evening. Dexadrine, which seems a lot like Adderall, has been a 'saving grace' med for me. Even though I do hav e this 'nap' problem, many of my problems, which seem like much of ADD, (getting angry at the drop of a pin, esp in the morning, and yelling at people I love; having restless, dream-rittled sleep; plus my original diagnosis of the depression being pretty bad, with little hope for the future) seemed to have been helped by this med.(Knock on wood :-) Yes, there are the 'side-effects', and I know about 'crashing' and not to increase the dose, and drug seeking behaviour, etc, but I guees that drowsiness is a 'mini-crash', and I accept it no problem.
I think what it is is the STIMS get pumping things up pretty quick, so just naturally there is going to be some 'down-time'. BTW, I tried all of the Ritalin 'family'..Ritalin SR, Concerta, and could not stand that drug for a minute. Sadly, Adderall has been pulled from the market here in Canada, but for people not prone to REALLY strong impulsive or addictive behaviour (and there are many exceptions too, I know) I think Dexedrine (Which is one of Adderall's mixed salts...I think??) is a great choice. It does quite bother me that certain people have taken to capitalize on their abusive experiences with the STIMS, by writing books and manuscripts and such as if these drugs are the spawn of the devil.
IMHO....
Jay (p.s. I hope this sounds like what this particular website and it's owner call 'civil'. I tried very hard.)

I guess what I experience on Adderall XR is a mimi crash/tirednes after about 3 or 4 hours and then it picks up again, then down again after about 9 hours. I do feel it calms me down and makes more social at times, (sharper). I don't get speedy.
In addition, I have been klonopin for about 7 years (1 mg) and prozac about 5 months (was on 20 mgs dropped to 10) when I started adderall XR.
So Jay what was so bad about Concerta?
Do you or anyone believe Vyvanse (basically dextroamphetamine) is more smoother than Adderall XR or possibly cause less irritabilty?

Hello All,
I take Adderall XR 20mg in the morning and 20mg in the afternoon for ADD. So that I don't experience any withdrawal or crash effects, when the medicine wears off, when I first started to take the medication I kept a log of when the medicine would wear off and the crash effect and times. Then I began to drink a cup of coffee three hours after my first dose in the morning and an hour before my last dose in the afternoon so that there aren't any crash effects whatsoever.Have a good day.
This is the end of the thread.
