Posting more vs. posting less

Posted by LlurpsieNoodle on July 25, 2007, at 9:18:26

Hi all,
I'm trying to collect some information about what motivates people to post lots vs. post little.

I'm posting this on several boards, to get a broader range of opinions. For instance I just posted on /psychology about some of the aspects of the therapeutic relationship that cause ME to post more or less frequently.

As far as the medication issues are, I find that I post more frequently before a pdoc appt. to try and find out what my options are to minimize a side-effect or to make my treatment more efficacious. I also post more when I'm in some [medication-related?] crisis and I'm too scared to contact my pdoc. Sometimes I post when I have specific experiences or opinions about particular treatments, but this is somewhat rare these days.

I was wondering what leads you to post more/less frequently.

The purpose of gathering this information is to help me put together a little paragraph that may or may not help Dr. Bob prepare a submission for the American Psychiatric Association conference in May. I was hoping to have some of your ideas this week so that I can finish up my little paragraph.

Thanks in advance,
-Ll

I may also post on /social in a bit too. I'd like to hear a diversity of opinions.

Hi Lurpsie I post to try and give support, when I've been on a lot of meds over the years I post my experiences, then having been a psych nurse I try and educate myself and compare to what the web says the med is supposed to do. Also learn about a lot of off label uses for meds. Love Phillipa

I post when I have a specific question about a med I'm taking or planning to take..usually because of fears I have of side effects. I respond to posts I feel I may have some knowledge about..

I usually post on the medication board when I'm experiencing start up side effects and aren't certain if it's something remarkable or not.

p.s. thank you for doing this, Llurpsie!

Ever since I stopped using meds, I have little or no interest in posting on the main board. I still read certain threads though, but mostly I just loiter. I am one of the fortunate ones who managed to remit completely from depression. I am no longer looking for a cure. But I still visit Psycho-Babble because it became a part of me during my illness, it was my salvation during some dark moments.
