I know most of the time it's effects wear off, but I'd like to know if Ritalin XR can boost the mood for longer than regular Ritalin, or does it just last longer for the problems of ADHD patients? I've tried the regular Ritalin and it's mood lifting effect lasted for about 4-5 hours. I'm sort of a treatment-resistant patient that's why I'd like to know.

if you respond well to ritalin as an AD, then you'll just need to work out getting as much coverage as possible and getting the dosage right. Some people find that the various controlled release stimulants dont work quite as well; some find they work OK, but they still end up taking an IR tablet as a pick-up in the afternoon. It really depends. I imagine the cheapest, most cost-effective and efficient thing to do would be to ask your doc to give you an IR rx that allows you to take multiple doses throughout the day. That's kind of obnoxious. but probably allows for easier dosage adjustments and more predictable results.
