Today via telephone the endo took me off the cytomel not just the synthroid 88mcg 7 days a week. The way it made me feel it must be like an add med where you crash after a few hours. Today was better. Love Phillipa And cytomel cause hair loss and more brittle bones.See the Nurse Practioner on Tuesday and would like a thyroid scan to see how much thyroid is left. What happens when it's all gone? Does you autoimmune disorder attack something else?

Phillipa...
Cytomel caused me massive anxiety and wretched depression. Synthroid, in very tiny doses then usual, was better tolerated. I am just 'borderline' hypothyroid (I know...another weird term), but the thyroid replacement medications are wayyyy too strong for me. This is a bit of a risky move, but you can also get 'thyroid supplements' made from real animal thyroid, at the health food store. The problem with those is a) you are only getting very tiny doses of actual thyroid and b) sometimes those supplements don't contain any actual thyroid.
Thyroid replacement is also used in people who have cancer of the thyroid and have to have it completely removed. I think you will be fine...try not to worry about it too much.Best and Peace and Hope,
Jay

Thanks Jay when you go to the thyroid sites and chat rooms seems everyone is praising cytomel. I was walking around with my head hanging down to my shoes the fatigue was so horrible. I have the hasimotos and it's changing all the time. The endo wants a TSH of l but it was down to 2.5 and some kind of bite think spider sent to up to the highest 9. I'd like a scan to see how much thyroid I have left as maybe when it totally gone easier to regulate just don't know. Would the autoimmune attack some other organ then? Love Phillipa
