Since I started Nardil, I've been afraid to drink a diet coke. Is it contraindicated? Or Equal, and any of that stuff?

I don't know about the significance with nardil but can't drink it it feels horrible in my mouth and throat. Google it I think there is some bad stuff on it not sure though love Phillipa

Does it have contraindications with aspartame and Equal or whatever's in the Diet Coke. That was my question. Not sure if you read it, but you didn't answer it for sure! lol.

I've never heard of aspartame being contraindicated with MAOIs. I did wonder about that when I was taking Parnate as my chewable vitamin C tablets contained aspartame. I took it anyway and had no problems, and I'm sure I've heard of people here drinking diet coke while on Nardil. I can't think of any reason why the other sweeteners like sodium saccharine, xylitol etc would interact, and I've never seen anything to that effect, so I guess they should be okay too. Some people say aspartame aggravates their depression though.

They are not contraindicated. I've been using these artificial sweetners for years with MAOIs-No Problems. Just type aspartame into the Google search engine. If it caused all of the problems that it is blamed for, most everyone would be deathly ill. I'm sure I'll get some arguments on this. Just switch to sugar. All of your problems will not go away.

I was afraid to drink Diet Coke too, which was a real problem as I live on it... drank one the first day, two the second day, three the third day and didn't want to push it any further. So now drink 3 a day. NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER, and believe me I'm paranoid. Won't go NEAR chocolate pizza etc.
