imagining side effects??

Posted by becksFLA on June 15, 2007, at 10:09:16

I started Trileptal a while ago. Is anxiety a possible side effect of this? I already take Klonopin, and I'm not sure but I think it may be increasing my anxiety. Honestly sometimes I take so many different cocktails it's hard to tell without a huge change if my mind is playing tricks on me or if it really is the drug.

Anybody experienced this effect with this drug?

thanks

50mg of lamictal only gave me the uncommon side effect of horrible saliva that caused spitting all the time had to give it up but it also may have made me angry as I slammed a plastic bottle on the outside store wall and that's not like me. Love Phillipa

yeah i hated lamictal. anxiety was through the roof. sometimes though like in this case with trileptal, i take all these different cocktails after a while you can't tell whether you're just having a bad stretch or the medication is actually causing something. sometimes i just want to be off meds completely.

Trileptal does list "nervousness" as a potential side effect. It is listed as very, very rare -- about 2% at doses of 2400mg. Placebo rate was 1%, so I wouldn't say it was necessarily caused by the Trileptal...

I have had side effects that I know were caused by my own anxiety. Things that I am convinced weren't -- well, not that they weren't real, just that the medications didn't cause them, if that makes sense? It can be very hard for me to tell when it's my anxiety, and when it's actually the drug.

What I try to do, is remind myself that drugs need time to do their work. I try to remind myself that I do have that history of reacting to what might not be the drug. I work with my therapist to stick it out until I give the drug a chance to work, or until I contact my pdoc to see if it's worth trying to stick it out. (A few times, my T has told me over and over that I'm fine, only to have the pdoc say, "OMG! Stop the drug now!" lol Sometimes it's hard to know...)

Since it is anxiety that you're experiencing, and since that can rarely be caused by the drug in question, maybe it's worth leaving a message for your pdoc, asking if this could be the drug? Or maybe asking whether it's worth sticking it out to see if this goes away?

Hope there's something helpful in there. Good luck!

I would say it could be a VERY RARE side effect. My pdoc has me on it specifically to treat anxiety..and it does help me.
