Lithium or Lamictal 2nd try = different response?

Posted by chiron on May 22, 2007, at 19:22:29

Besides the long-acting xanax, the only other options that my dr. suggested are giving one of these another try. (I've pretty much tried everything & get abnormal reactions)
My response to lithium was worse: "agitated, anxiety, depression=bad" That's what they put me on when I first went to the hospital a year ago.
Lamictal I've actually tried twice, I'm not real clear on what my response is. I think the 1st time I tried it for a month, but the acne became so horrific that that was the final straw. I felt like it was causing more agitation & craziness last time, but I think I was also on Seroquel, which I have figured out is bad for me (like all of the anti-psychotics).

I know Lamictal is suppose to stabilize, but will it help depression? And how long until it kicks in? Most meds have messed me up so bad, but I am so depressed right now I am desperate.

I was told that lamictal up to I think it was 200mg was a booster for an antidepressant. I only made it to 50mg as I had an uncommon side effect spitting as excess saliva disgusting. But the med seemed to agree with me psychologically. Love Phillipa
