Just a question as it seems so many either find something that works for a while and then stops or just never find a thing that works. So for those who have succeeded what is your secret as I have contrary to belief tried an awful lot and for the six weeks or more. How did you do it. Thanks Phillipa

One of the most important elements is going up to a therapeutic dose. If you stay on too low a dose, no matter how long you use the AD, it won't help very much.
That's definitely the first step.

I'll say Zyprexa again! Seriously try it. have you given up on valium? Does it not work anymore? Taking zyprexa at same dose for 10 years now and it has never failed.

I know your frustration. I've been on countless different combos over the past two years. The best was probably Ritalin but that (in all honestly) really just gave me a good buzz. Now I'm back to Wellbutrin and hoping that after all the ups and downs (multiple manic experiences) I'll be feeling the need to expect less and thus have it work better...
Guess I'm at that point where the situation can't really get worse for me so I'm hoping this retry of something I used once before might work better now. But yea, definitely can relate to the frustration of going through med after med w/o life getting much better.
Good luck,
-Jay

Then if you've gone through a grocery list of drugs, that's the direction you should head in. The diet is a joke, the side-effects are indeed a pain in the @ss for a while, but most importantly THE DRUGS WORK! :)

I don't mean to put a downer on this topic but MAOIs didn't work for me but then I only gave them a month.

You need at least 8 weeks for the Nardil to bed in and to have got to the right dose. How long you need on "the right dose" I'm not sure.
As someone else said failure to repond to ADs is usually because they weren't taken for long enough.
Interestingly, or perhaps not, Effexor side effects were very mild at first and grew insidiously. Like forgetfulness. Going into a room and then not knowing why. Opening the fridge and gazing into it to try to remember what you wanted. This is an ocurrence common to most people, but this got worse and worse. The other was I gradually started to feel tireder and tireder until I slept every lunch time and all weekend sometimes. After 2-3 years it finally made me put on weight. Insidious stuff. I find Nardil much more direct in its effects
