I continue to improve on Lamictal

Posted by notfred on April 2, 2007, at 10:37:19

I moved to 300 mgs this weekend which is my target dose. My neuro feels this will be high enough (500-800 mgs is standard for seizures) to control my seizures as they are do not happen often.

Mood still improving. I moved 3 months ago and my house is still in a mess. Towels for window shades, that kind of stuff. In a rush of energy I bought window treatments and put them up. Cleaned. Organized the trash and recycling area. I am usually a couch potato on weekends, This is a change.

Today I feel very happy. The fact that my bank is saying I have no money (they upgraded this weekend and nothing works) and I can't use my cash card does not phase me. Being told I am NSF by a clerk
rolled right off.

Good for you notfred!
I am loving Lamictal myself, and have found that things are rolling off of my shoulders a lot easier as well.
Things that would normally freak me out no longer do.
congrats!

I'm jealous, after reading so much good stuff about lamictal on the internet for mood instability, aggression, impulsiveness and effectiveness for borderline personality disorder, i was told by my dr its not able to be prescribed for that purpose yet in Australia without me having to pay hundreds a month for it. instead i was put on carbamazepine.

If you want to try it, if carbamazepine does not work well for you, GSK has patient assistance programs for those who cannot afford their meds, Lamictal is included:

Hi rj,

that's a very good description of Zyprexa

"it kinda blunts me out"

That's exactly how it made me feel

I have been tapering down from 10 mg since October last year and have now been down to zero for nearly 3 weeks. The insomnia is a major hassle but is damped down by 5 mg Valium.

I assume you are on the 2.5 mg. Don't stay on it for several years and expect a hassle free w/d. Zyprexa is a bitch to come off. This is my second attempt. First time I did it in 4 weeks and suffered horrible rebound insomnia and anxiety. This time I have taken it ultra slow. I have not had any hassle really until I cut down from 1.25 mg (half tablet) to zero. Now I am struggling.

I've never taken Lamictal but it might be a better solution than the Zyprexa. Oh yes I have also had a couple of manic frantics but I try to keep my cool now.

Good health

ronaldo

Yep, that is good the hear. Some people say there is no improvement above 100mgs, for depression.
You and I are proof this is not so for some people. I felt improvements right off the bat at 25 mgs and continued to improve with each increase, up to 300mgs. 300 mgs is now my stable dose. Unless I have another seizure. But my neuro thinks I will never have another one as long as I stay on the right anti-seizure med for me.

FWIW, in seizures the the standard dose is 500 mgs
and you can go to 800mgs. But you have to titrate up to those doses. Most people tolerate these doses very well and there are lots of people taking Lactimal as seizures are the most common condition in neurology. This gives lots of room to try higher doses, for BP and depression.
