Anti-histamines + ADs...

Posted by TrishP on March 30, 2007, at 7:46:58

I thought I read somewhere that some ADs effect histamine in our body. What does that mean for people who take anti-histamines daily (I take Allegra & Singulair)?

Is it bad to take anti-histamines and antidepressants?

Does one cancel out the other? Or increase the strength of the other?

Many tricyclic antidepresants are very potent antihistamines. If you are taking any of those, you could save a lot of money by dropping the overpriced antihistamines.

It has some antihistaminic activity though Remeron is more potent as far as the atypicals go. Zyprexa is probably the King Kong for H1 antagonist properties. You have to be careful mixing serzone with some antihistamine meds as they can cause cardiac arithymias.
