Staterra Question

Posted by theo on March 27, 2007, at 19:54:04

I'm trying Straterra for the first time. I started at 25mg and have been on for 5 days. I'm experiencing tiredness and it almost makes me feel more blaw. Should I even try 40mg or stop the pain.

From what I understand, this isn't like an SSRI where you need to give it a month, right?

**The side-effects you are describing are very common with Straterra. When I took it, I had crying spells, hot flashes, nausea, and the general "blah" feeling. The increased concentration and alertness were wonderful, but they did not out-weigh the side-effects. I don't remember exactly what my dosage was, but I think I started with 25mg and increased until 75mg or 100mg for about six weeks before I stopped taking it.

**My pdoc told me that Straterra wasn't like an SSRI, and that it would start working right away. In reality, though, I didn't feel any positive effects for about 4 or 5 weeks. The negative effects, however, began right away.

My advice is this: if you think it *might* be working, give it another few weeks. If it still doesn't work, you should reconsider whether or not you want to keep going with it. Also, don't be afraid to stop taking it if the side-effects become unbearable. You should, of course, tell your pdoc about your decision, but just know that you shouldn't experience any withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking it.

Good luck!

I agree with Theo. Stattera takes a little longer to work, and the tiredness should subside by week 2. Your pdoc should have told you to take it a few hours before bed if it makes you tired. No matter now, you should be on your way. Good luck.
