Anyone have foggy memory of life on SSRI?

Posted by Joe Bloe on March 19, 2007, at 19:51:20

Anyone experience a foggy memory and recall of your life and particular events from the time spent while taking an SSRI?

I feel that I am having difficulty recalling mundane stuff from my 4 years on prozac now that I am withdrawing.

You know the more I read about the foggy thinking the more it reminds me of what I've read of ECT. Stretching it a bit but it does. Love Phillipa

YES! I'm not quite as sharp. Kind of dulled. Probably mostly the Klonopin, but I don't take that every day. But yeah i guess its OK some of it I don't want to remember anyways.

Yes, when I try to think back to exact dates, or sometimes what season, I find I can be at a loss. I took ssris around 5 years...I think. Its the most annoying at job interviews when they slam the 'when' questions on me, and I have to *THINK* back. Sometimes I accidentally contradict myself, and the interviewer will tell me so. I interview with doctors alot, so they usually are very quick like that.

Yep, I took an ssri for a few months and have very few recollections of that time except for side effects of the meds, and then very vivid recollections of the withdrawal process. It's like I can see it through a thick fog. Weird.

It's weird because now that I am withdrawing from Prozac, I am starting to remember more events from the time before I started this med. Yet, my memory of moments on Prozac seems rather surreal. Almost like a dream.

I wonder why this is?

I know I had significant short term memory problems on prozac, which persisted long after stopping.

Perhaps it's due to having foggy perception while under the influence?

Yes, I've noticed that too, but more so with benzos which are notorious amnesiants. Unfortunately I can now remember quite clearly my behaviour while taking them *cringe, cringe, cringe*.

Since I stopped the luvox and just the xanax long acting and lunesta every other night I'm getting my old me back. The one who worked in a jail to become strong willed before working in psych. Interesting the SSRI's are the culprit. And I'm going places doing things that I wouldn't have done before like stopping to look for a nursing job at a Nursing Home. Figured better to start slow and work up. I think SSRI's are like poison for me. They always made me feel horrible and I quit. Love Phillipa

That's a very difficult yet highly admirable job. I know I couldn't do it.

This thread reminds me of that book. When the Indian tries to explain the 'fog'.

I used to think SSRIs were fairly deent, but am slowly coming to see that they are very inhibiting in regards to several aspects of life: (1) they kill one's sleep cycles, (2) they are numbing, (3) and I to have noticed they cause me to go through my days without recollecting the important things I experience (even though at the times of experiencing them I don't feel like I"m totally numb).

If one doesn't have to take an SSRI (possible OCD issues or whatnot), I'd never suggest they ever touch 'em....
