I have been on Lex since last June and want to try life without it. I have been surfing web for info on withdrawl symptoms and time frame and am horrified to think that it may be as hard to come off of Lex as it was paxil (I HATED paxil). I would appreciate any "sharings" and am hoping for some tales of "success without horror first". I am going to be so ticked if it's all bad news because I had asked my doc to prescribe Zoloft which created no probs and he insisted that Lex would be "easy" to go on and come off....
Anxiously awaiting your responses,
Tooter

You sound like me I don't get the horrible withdrawal some post of only the zaps and some dizzyness. Good luck if you did well with zoloft probably the same with lexapro. Did it make you well or feel well and that's why coming off? Love Phillipa

I went off paxil in 2002 cold turkey. Then went of lexy in September cold turkey. Cold turkey is not a good idea or good advice, because anything than THAT is better.
I would have to say reducing the dose very slowly is the best positive advice I could tell you. You'll probably notice less effects immensly if you do so.
Also I would have choosen to be on a benzo, if I had a choice in the situation.
Good Luck

Hey Toots,
I'm afraid I can't give you the sucess story. I had quite a bit of trouble coming off Lexapro, but then I had lots of side effects on it too, and it didn't work for me, so you may well react in a different way. Have you considered adding Prozac for a few days before starting to reduce Lexapro? I've heard it can work quite well to reduce withdrawal symptoms because Prozac stays in your system so much longer.

Thanks Ines! It makes me wonder why anything other than Prozac is ever prescribed. LOL. It worked wonders years ago. And I had no probs coming off. Guess docs put you on whatever the "new" wonder SSRI is for the day....take care,

I've never had side effects taking Lex and never had any problems coming off of it. We're all different, that's for sure.
